This launch is significant as it addresses a growing need for deep spiritual formation and accompaniment within the Church. It empowers individuals for personal renewal and prepares skilled spiritual directors, fostering spiritual maturity and faithful service crucial for contemporary Christian life and community engagement.
STERLING, VA – March 25, 2026 – Divine Mercy University (DMU) proudly launches its new School of Spiritual Direction, offering profound Catholic spiritual formation. For personal renewal and faithful service, the initial "Preparing Our Hearts" Foundational Courses are now open. These academically rigorous courses, akin to graduate-level work, welcome all seeking deeper spiritual growth; no formal prerequisites.
The foundational curriculum explores spiritual growth within Church tradition (SOSD101), introduces Christian discipleship and spiritual accompaniment (SDC100), and studies the human person for effective guidance (SDC200). DMU President Fr. Charles Sikorsky emphasized the Church's "continual need for men and women deeply formed in prayer." VP of Academic Affairs Dr. Harvey Payne noted the school "responds to the Christian need for accompaniment by nurturing spiritual maturity." SDC100 and SDC200 are prerequisites for the Spiritual Direction Certificate.
Maria Brackett, Director, affirmed, "Our courses will strengthen their relationship with the Lord, whether participants pursue a certificate or simply seek deeper personal formation." The School of Spiritual Direction invites individuals—from those seeking personal growth to aspiring or current directors—to embark on a path of prayerful formation and service.
